[ 6 NM, 30 minutes ]
It was in the mid 60s today, making it the nicest weather we have had on our trip and a perfect day for our visit to Hague Lake. We slow motored the boat out of Gorge Harbour and back to Manson's Landing. There was no talk of getting in the dinghy for this adventure. We tied up to the government dock for the afternoon (it is free for an hour, $5 for half a day, and $10 for the entire day).
The trip to Hague Lake from Manson's Landing is a short walk to the lagoon and then we followed a defined trail on the high side of the water line. Less than half a mile in the trail ends at a small waterfall that is being fed by Hague Lake. There is an opening in the forest and a continued trail with a short but steep elevation change. It appeared that there were a number of entrances in to the woods that you could take to work your way in the right direction, but I believe we took the most direct route. The walk in the woods is just a few minutes and you cross over a road with some sporadic traffic. From there the Hague Lake sign is visible and the walk is brief to a sandy shore with clear waters that were nearly the same temperature as the day. The sandy shore is limited and while it wasn't over crowded when we arrived, I can see where it could get there on a warmer day and further into the summer season.
Our dogs are not water fans as a rule, but prompted with a toy they seem to forget. They had the BEST day at this lake! Dually had sniffed out a tennis ball on our walk and we packed it along to the water to throw for her. She was really struggling with trying to breathe under the water while getting her mouth around it. Wrecker's biggest problem was the splashing of the water by children. I think maybe she wants to save them, but she would scratch the heck out of them in her efforts.
I'm leaving this post short on words and heavy on pictures, since they tell the story of how much fun was had with them!
OH! and an update on our shellfish dinner. We couldn't finish all of it. Dave barbecued our oysters with garlic, butter, and topped it with Thai sweet chili sauce. For our clams we had them over a white wine and tomato broth he made for us, and bread dipping is always the best part for me.
