Smitten with Seabrook

Writer: Jaci BryantJaci Bryant

The last 5 nights were spent on a family trip to Pacific Beach on the Washington Coast. Seabrook became our home for our stay and it did not disappoint. It is a planned community established in 2004, born from one couple’s vision of a perfect beach town.

Town was magical to walk around, since it felt 180° out from a block away from its entrance. Think The Truman Show. It was near impossible to not feel like you were on vacation at every turn.

The first shop in town is the Front Street Market. You can find local jarred goods, gourmet coffee, some fresh produce, and a tasty breakfast/lunch sandwich board. We did have to leave paradise for the Ocean Shores IGA to do a larger stock up. There was a full size grocery store (and brewery) under construction promising a possibility of no car keys needed during future visits.

Town had its own options for eating out, some of which we tried. Rising Tide’s has delicious burgers with a unique and artful curled fry, as well as some limited salads that you can add a protein to. We stopped in for lunch during the Saturday Farmer’s Market. The market runs every Saturday 10-4pm and is a dozen or so local artists with booths. This also lines up in time with the Cocktails & Cotton Candy outside Town Hall. We stopped in for the adult specialty Mule, Mojito, and Belfry Breeze, but you could find the non-alcoholic options that included a spun sugar topping.

We stopped in at Vista Bakeshop for coffee and cinnamon rolls. It was getting a needed expansion next door. Across the street from it we shopped The Salty Dog for souvenirs for the bulldogs that were left behind. The next door down is the Sweet Life where local ice cream was bought regularly.

This place is so dog friendly, we will not make the same mistake of leaving our pups again.

Twice we stopped to eat at Koko’s Restaurant & Tequila Bar. What a flavor party! It would be hard to decide between the ahi tostados with chipotle sauce, tamarind-habanero prawns, or the carne asada as the favorite, but everything we tried is worth a revisit to judge again.

There were more than half a dozen places to shop, including a spa, toy store, branded apparel, seashore decor, boutique style clothing, surf supply, a coming soon candle shop, and our favorite, the beautifully curated book store.

Dining at the wine bar, pizza joint, and the variety of food trucks didn’t fit in to this trip, but something left for next time.

"What makes Seabrook so special is the purpose-built homes that combine the desired amenities of a rental home while elevating the experience with our hospitality program."

The walks at Seabrook! You can change your direction and which white shelled path you want to follow. The paths lead to parks, beach access, fun items, and hiking trails. We found something new each time we set off.

We left our fairytale spot for the 25 minute ride to Ocean Shores a couple of times. Other than our initial grocery needs, we found fun moments at the go cart track, mini golf, bumper boats, froyo, a big shark head, and beach cruising.

The house we rented was one of many in the 500 house community. It was hard to choose, but I’ve decided we couldn’t have picked the wrong one. Depending on size and dog friendliness, they would all fit the bill. Ours housed a virtual paint and sip that could be purchased at guest services, doughboys over the fire, cooking lessons with family, a puzzle, a game made for belly laughing, and a fifteenth birthday. Seabrook had a host of activities, including a Friday concert and salsa dancing lessons, that we skipped.

"Each year, Seabrook Hospitality welcomes thousands of guests to Seabrook year-round with over 250 homes currently in the vacation rentals program. Whether a party is looking for a 2 person getaway or a house that sleeps upwards of 20, there are homes of all sizes to meet any need."

This was a family trip that I am becoming familiar with, in the way that I can't plan for the time that the girls have available from adulting. We were able to have moments with all of our girls as available and share them with our family. I'll take what I can get and plan for our trip back to Seabrook.
